GALLERY

  • The culmination of RVCA culture is the VASF gallery (located within the retail store in San Francisco). Providing a unique platform for ANP artists to showcase their individual talents, the gallery curates four to six key art shows each year. Fast becoming a new and exciting source of art culture to the local community, the gallery also provides a voice for local artists and personalities, many of whom are invited on occasion to participate in special projects.

NO REST FOR THE WICKD • APRIL 16th, 2009

  • NO REST 4 THE WICKD, curated by David Kasprzak, is an exhibition of eight artists from around the world returning to the traditional art form of portraiture. There is, however, nothing traditional about their mediums, methods, or subjects. These eight artists have reclaimed an ancient format originally reserved for aristocracy by tearing the portrait away from its oil and canvas roots and manifesting their visions on paper. Their subjects transform from the wealthy and influential to the obscure and strangely beautiful.

VEGETABLE | FEBUARY 7Th, 2008

  • RVCA is proud to present "VEGETABLE", a solo exhibition by ANP Artist Matt Gordon at the VASF Gallery on Thursday 7th February 2008.
  • Matt Gordon, a Northville Michigan local, is thrilled to be bringing his solo exhibition "Vegetable" to the VASF Gallery. Having recently had a soft launch for the show at RVCA's HQ in Costa Mesa, California in December 2007, "Vegetable" is now headed to San Francisco to debut Gordon's "painted reality" to the local community.
  • Clippings from newspapers and lost pictures of people found in thrift stores, these images reflect perfectly in Gordon's painted reality. Gordon's humor transcends through his paintings and in his words. Essentially Gordon becomes the same as his paintings and the paintings becomes the same as Gordon.
  • Layer upon layer the paintings transform. The evolution is incredible, each layer more detailed than the coat before but some days Gordon paints over hours and hours of work as he says, "a night eye can see mistakes that a daytime workman is to proud to notice". Objects under the size of a dime are perfectly legible. Gordon only paints absolute detail on objects that are crucial to the story and sometimes every object is indispensable which ends up in "back aches and a lot of happy nights."
  • Please join us to see the works of Matt Gordon. Opening reception Thursday 7th February 2008 from 5pm at the VASF Gallery

FAMILY TREE | NOVEMBER 8TH, 2007

  • FAMILY TREE

  • On Thursday 8th November 2007, RVCA launched the VASF Gallery - the culmination of RVCA culture.
  • The inaugural show, Family Tree, featured art by Phil Frost, R. Pimple (Barry McGee) and Craig Stecyk III. The four walls of the gallery were layered with disparate drawings, photos, paintings, sculpture and ephemera that intertwined seamlessly. Phil Frost further added to the event by donning headphones and working on several paintings as the crowd jostled around him...Even stopping to sign people's books.
  • A good crew had amassed--the obvious local SF art community, as well as many of RVCA friends and family from down south. The skate team even decided to take a little trip up on, well... A different sort of transportation. But that story is for another time. The night was rounded out with some dj-ing by Damon Way and live sets by Tommy Guerrero.
  • Needless to say, it was an event which was one to remember and not one to miss.
