Just prior to the show’s closing, the RVCA staff was graciously given a private guided tour of Art In The Streets by gallery director, Jeffrey Deitch and ANP Quarterly Editor, Aaron Rose. With so many RVCA ANP contributors in the show, it was an amazing opportunity to see their work displayed on a stage of this scale.
Barry McGee has been in Sydney doing work with the Art and About festival, while he was here he managed to catch a few waves in Cronulla. Check out this post on the sea life to see what he did when he wasn’t setting conservative media channels alight with fury.
After dropping off some Ltd product to the MOCA store, we were fortunate enough to spend some time in the gallery viewing the completed show before the artist’s reception last Thursday. RVCA had the opportunity to help support the most significant gallery show in the history of street art to date. Art In The Streets has recently opened in the MOCA in Los Angeles and features the work of several RVCA ANP artists. The Museum of Contemporary Art presents Art in the Streets, the first major U.S. museum exhibition of the history of graffiti and street art. The exhibition will trace the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved. Following MOCA’s presentation, the exhibition will travel to the Brooklyn Museum, where it will be on view March 30–July 8, 2012.
The University of California’s Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive has been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for a Barry McGee retrospective exhibition in 2012.
