  • 'Family' is a bookshop/gallery/venue in Los Angeles, established in 2006 by David Kramer, Sammy Harkham, and Tahli Harkham. They were all born in 1980 and went to the same high school in Sydney, Australia, where the idea for Family was conceived.
  • Family stocks zines and books from around the world, including: 'Napa' (Finland), 'Nieves' (Belgium), 'Islands Fold' (Canada), 'Shoboshobo' (France), and 'Soyfriends' (Iceland). Plus US publishers like 'PictureBox', 'Mcsweeneys', 'Buenaventura Press' and a range of local LA record labels like 'PPM', 'Teardrops', and 'Not Not Fun'.
  • As a gallery they have exhibited work by Paper Rad, Matthew Thurber, Ariel Pink Rosenberg, Mark Bell, and Shoboshobo. Events held in the store include performances by Lavender Diamond, Mt Eerie, The Sads, Ariel Pink, Tussle, and No Age. Family has also premiered music videos by Mike Mills, and hosts a writer's reading series curated by Trinie Dalton.
  • Sammy is also the editor of the influential annual comics anthology, 'Kramer's Ergot', emblematic of the store's general aesthetic.
